A survey of saproxylic insects at various sites within the Suffolk Wool Town Farms cluster was carried out in April and May 2025 under the CSFF DEFRA funding. These surveys were stimulated by and complemented the cluster veteran tree event held in 2024.
The survey focussed on saproxylic beetles – those species that depend on dead and decaying wood for all or part of their life-cycles.
These organisms recycle organic material, increase structural complexity of habitats, pollinate many plant species and are an important part of upward food chains.
